Empty Bowls Community Service Project
Clay is awesome! LAJH 2-D2 Art Students will create clay bowls for The Clay County Empty Bowls Luncheon. This Community Service Project is a fund raiser for a local food pantry. They provide the clay and the glaze. We provide our creativity and imaginations to create the pottery bowls. We will use low fire white clay. The greenware bowls will air dry for one week and then they will be fired. The bowls will be bisque after the first firing. Students will select from over 100 different glazes when creating and designing their bowls. The large glaze selection keeps our bowls unique. Students will have a choice of creating a leaf bowl or a slab bowl. The slab bowl will be embellished with a variety of detailed designs. This will be the sixth year LAJH Art Students have participated in this worthwhile event. We are very honored to be selected to participate. We are the only junior high school participating with the other area high schools. Lake Asbury Jr. High was presented the "Empty Bowls Award" for all that we do to raise funds and help make the event successful each year. Mark your calendars for our Fine Arts Department Showcase featuring our "Empty Bowls" on Thursday, October 8th at
7 p.m. in our cafeteria. This program will feature our first semester 2-D2 art students along with performances by our Mixed Chorus and Symphonic Band. Additional information will be sent home in September.

Supplies
In order to make your experience in Exploring Art as successful as possible it is necessary to collect a $10 supply fee per student each semester.
This will purchase specialized supplies that will be used for several of our large projects. Each day, students will need to come to class with the
following: #2 pencils and a white eraser. Please do not buy mechanical pencils for art. Mechanical pencils do not produce the best range of shading
and line quality for the drawing techniques your art student will be learning.
